Physical Science B(Tuesday)
Bellwork:
1. Why is a food web a better model to study than a food chain when considering the effects losing or gaining a species may have to an ecosystem? Discuss this with you table mate.
2. If a plant produces 2000 calories of energy, then it is eaten by a cow, which is subsequently eaten by a mountain lion, how much energy is passed on to the mountain lion? If he needs to maintain a 2000 calorie diet, what does that mean for the cows? How can we represent this concept in pictorial form?
3. Explain how different organisms obtain energy. Why is the understanding of this such an important thing for human survival?
Pick up the food web sheet.
Discuss energy, numbers, and biomass pyramids.
Go over the homework. We will get in groups to discuss the answers within the group and then we will come back together and discuss as a class. In the end, everyone should leave with all the questions answered.
Homework: Finish the Food Chain/Food Web questions.
