Physical Science B(Wed.)

Bellwork:
    1.  Pick up a pyramid and explain.

    2.  Share with your table mate what your ideas were and compare.

Check and go over the homework.

Quick quiz

Discuss the water cycle.

Cycle Group activity. You will work in groups of three.  Each person will research one of the chemical cycles.  Once you have finished the research, you will make a poster (hand-out on computer paper)that represents the cycle and describes the processes involved within.

HW:  Each group will work on their three posters(8.5 x 11).  I will give some time to work on tomorrow but they will be collected at the end of the hour.

Plan on our next test on Tuesday next week.

Physics B

Bellwork:
    1.  What do we call the two parts to a shadow?  Why does this form?

    2.  What is polarization?  How does this work?

Discuss the formation of shadows and light intensity.

Light intensity lab.

Goal is to analyze how the intensity of light varies with distance.  You will use the optical bench setup to determine a mathematical model to relate how the intensity and distance relate.

HW:  Finish the light intensity lab and answer the questions.

Tomorrow we will wrap-up all the big concepts, go over the math formulas and examples, and lastly get you prepared to take the last test in this class.

Physical Science B(Tuesday)

Bellwork:
    1.  Why is a food web a better model to study than a food chain when considering the effects losing or     gaining a species may have to an ecosystem?  Discuss this with you table mate.

    2.  If a plant produces 2000 calories of energy, then it is eaten by a cow, which is subsequently eaten by     a mountain lion, how much energy is passed on to the mountain lion?  If he needs to maintain a 2000     calorie diet, what does that mean for the cows?  How can we represent this concept in pictorial form?

    3.  Explain how different organisms obtain energy.  Why is the understanding of this such an important     thing for human survival?

Pick up the food web sheet.

Discuss energy, numbers, and biomass pyramids.

Go over the homework.  We will get in groups to discuss the answers within the group and then we will come back together and discuss as a class.  In the end, everyone should leave with all the questions answered.

Homework: Finish the Food Chain/Food Web questions.

Physics B

Bellwork:
    1.  Why is it that the horn on a car seems to change in sound as it approaches and then passes by me?

    2.  Explain the difference between diffuse reflection and specular reflection.

    3.  What causes the straw to appear to be bent in a glass of water?  Explain.

Go over the homework problems

Finish the index of refraction activity.

Discuss shadows

Shadow Lab

HW: Finish the intensity of light lab questions.

 Physical Science B (Monday)
Bellwork
    1.  What is Ecology?

Begin ecology unit.  Discuss levels of organization, food chains and food webs.

When finished, you will work on the analogy assignment in groups of two.

Please pick up the food chain and food web activity.  In this activity you will use the pictures to create a food chain and a food web.

You will need two picture sheets.  First cut out all the pictures on just one of the picture sheets.  Flip them all upside down. Pick six on the pictures and do you best to create a food chain from the six pictures.  You may not be able to use all six.  Glue the pictures onto a blank sheet of paper and draw in the arrows to represent the flow of energy.

For the food web, cut out all the pictures on the second sheet.  Now arrange them in such a way that will allow you to create a food web that will incorporate all the pictures.  Glue these onto a blank sheet of paper and then draw in all of the arrows to represent the flow of energy.

Answer the questions on the packet.  You will hand in the questions and the glued pictures.

Secondly, there is a food chain and food web worksheet.  Please pick this up when you are done and work on this as well.

Lastly, your vocabulary needs to be finished by tomorrow.

I will check and pick up the vocab., the analogy, and food chain/food web pictures and questions tomorrow.

Physics B

Welcome Seniors to your last full week of high school!  (Juniors, feel free to give them a hard time)

Finish Lenses Lab.

Pick up and complete the refraction activity.  You will calculate the index of refraction for the clear cube using Snell's law.

Pick up the index of refraction worksheet.

Finish the math problems related to Snell's law

Physical Science B(friday)

Go over a couple of the questions missed by large percentage of the class.  Discuss any problems.

Objectives:
    1.  Understand the levels of organization found within an ecosystem.

Begin ecology unit.  Discuss levels of organization, food chains and food webs.

When finish, you will work on the analogy assignment.

HW: Analogy Assignment

Physics B

Bellwork
    1.  What type of image will be formed if an object is placed in from of a convex mirror?

    2.  What type of image will be formed if an object is placed outside of the focal point of a concave     mirror?

Let's Finish the Lens Lab.  I know that we have people missing, but you should be to the point where you can plat the data on the computer and produce your graphs.  Please save the file, so the data plot can be shared with those not present.

Refraction worksheet.

Physical Science B(Thursday)

Test Today!  Please have your computers out and log into examview.  Make sure that you have a sheet of paper to write your answers down on.  If you would like a paper copy, please ask.

When you have finished please work on the vocabulary for the ecology unit.  We will be switching from using the physical science text to using the biology text.

Secondly:
-Read and take notes of Chapter 3.
-Focus on      a.  What is Ecology?
            b.  What are the levels of organization within the biosphere?
               c.  What are the different ways that living things obtain energy?
            d.  How does energy flow through an ecosystem?
            e.  How do nutrients and chemical cycle through an ecosystem?

HW:  Read the chapter, take notes on chapter 3, finish the vocabulary.

Physics B

Bellwork
1.  Explain the difference between additive colors and subtractive colors.

2.  If an object is place 6 cm in front of a mirror and the mirror has a focal distance of -8 cm, where will the image be formed?  What type of mirror is this?

Go over the math problems.  Check

Begin the lab on thin lens equatio
